Sweet Birthday Card

It is Saturday and that means a new challenge at Sugar Creek Hollow. This week we want you to make vintage, shabby chic or primitive BIRTHDAY CARDS. I am not sure which style my card is so I will call it a cross between vintage and shabby chic. What I do know is that it has a great retro image from our sponsor this week, Phindy's Place.

Phindy is going to provide one random winner with a digi of their choice from her store. The random winner will also get a winner's badge. The Design Team will choose their Top Pick and that creator will also get a badge to display and will be in the running for the monthly Guest Designer spot.

Easter Bunny

Our challenge this week at Phindy's Friday Challenge Blog is RIBBONS. We want you to make cards or other paper-crafted projects with ribbons and/or ribbon bows.

Since Easter is only a hop, skip and jump away I thought I better start making some cards for my Grandchildren. This little bunny cuddling her favourite toy is adorable and I love the striped grosgrain ribbon to go with her that I found in the $1 bin at Michaels.

The flowers are bright in real life but the photo makes them look even brighter and edit as I might, I could not calm it down. Question for Husband: Where is that light tent you promised me for Christmas?

You don't have to use a Phindy image to participate but if you do, you will get 2 entries and we have two great prizes. If you don't have any Phindy images just pop over to her store and pick up a few. There are lots of new images that would be great for your Easter cards.

I am going to enter this card in the following challenges:

Steampunk at Sugar Creek Hollow

This week at Sugar Creek Hollow we are challenging you to make STEAMPUNK cards or other paper-crafted projects. This theme is perfect for the vintage or shabby chic style we require.

The timing of this challenge was great for me since I had a birthday card to make for my niece's husband and Steampunk works well for a guy. I do sometimes struggle with making masculine cards (I wish they loved lace, flowers and pearls like I do) so any assistance I can get is always appreciated.

I dug out some Tim Holtz Grunge Paper to make the gears with. I had bought it over a year ago but never used it. I cut it with my Cricut and it was like cutting butter so you can bet I will be using it again soon. The images were all freebies thanks to the generosity of The Graphics Fairy.

I am going to enter this card in the following challenges:

ATCs & Cards With Attitude - Steampunk/Anything Goes
The Poodles Parlour - Anything Goes
Crafty Purple Frog - Anything Goes
Sarah Hurley Challenges - Steampunk
Creative Card Crew - Vintage
Bunny Zoe's Crafts - Shabby Chic/Vintage

Multi Tasking Mom

This week our challenge over at Phindy's Friday Challenges is called ANIMAL PLANET. We want to see an animal on your card or other paper-crafted project.

I thought this image was such fun because Moms have way too much to do, even animal Moms. You don't have to use a Phindy image in your project but I encourage you to because you get two entries if you do. If you don't have one of Phindy's animal images, pop over to her store because she has lots there to choose from.

One random winner will receive a $5 gift certificate to Phindy's store. The Design Team will select one project as Card of the Week with the creator also receiving a $5 gift certificate and getting a chance at being a monthly Guest Designer.

I am going to enter this card in the following challenges:

Primitive Christmas Angel

We have another great challenge for you at Sugar Creek Hollow. This week we want your vintage, shabby chic or primitive cards to have lots of LAYERS.

We would like to welcome a wonderful new sponsor, Robyn's Fetish, who is generously providing 5 digis from her store to one random winner. The random winner will also receive a winner's badge from Sugar Creek Hollow.

The Design Team will choose one entry as their Top Pick and the creator of that card will receive a winner's badge to display and will be in the running for a monthly Guest Designer spot to be chosen after the last March challenge.

Our designers have created some fun primitive cards for your inspiration this week using images from our lovely sponsor. For the details, just click on their name and you will be taken directly to their blog.

I took this sweet angel from Robyn's Fetish and made a primitive Christmas card. If you haven't tried primitive cards before, don't let the style intimidate you. When I decided to give it a try, I used Google to search for primitive Cards and what I found were simple images and embellishments on cards with a bit of a country feel. Now if I can create primitive, I know you can so I hope you will join us.

I am going to enter this card in the following challenges:

Crafty Sentiments - Things with Wings
Crafty Boots - Glitter
Crimbo Crackers - Cute (must be Christmas)
Dilly Beans - Stars
Ditzy Craftymess - Buttons or Anything Goes
Frosted Designs - Things with Wings

Spring Flowers

This week our challenge at Phindy's Friday challenge blog is called SPRING HAS SPRUNG. We want to see cards with a Spring theme or even lots of Spring flowers.

We are having some glorious weather right now and it is unusually warm so many of the trees are already starting to bud and I have noticed some crocuses starting to pop out. It is really early so I sure hope there aren't any negative affects on the summer garden.

I don't have any spring bulbs in my garden but I know that if I did I would certainly plant Hyacinth bulbs because they have the most gorgeous aroma and come in the most gorgeous purples, pinks and white - like my Lilacs.   That is why I chose this image called Hyacinth and Ivy to work with this week.

I am going to enter this card in the following challenges:

Gingersnap Creations - Border Punches
Little Darlings Challenges - Colors of Spring
Stampavie & More - Spring/Easter
Digital Tuesday - Think Spring
Sweet Stamps - Spring

Going Green

Our challenge this week at Phindy's Friday Challenge is create a card in MONOCHROMATIC GREEN. It could be for St. Patrick's Day if you want, but it doesn't have to be. It just has to be green.

I know my photo looks like her clothes are gold but the sweater and her boots are coloured with a pencil called Artichoke and her skirt was done in Green Ochre. Trust me, both are green.

Let's see your green creations and you could be a random winner or be chosen as Card of the Week by the Design Team. Both winners get a $5 gift certificate to Phindy's store and the DT pick gets a chance at being our monthly Guest Designer.

Don't have a Phindy's image? Well you don't really need one to enter but if you use a Phindy's image you get two entries and two chances at the prizes. Check out Phindy's store because there are lots of great new images.

Fancy Tag

This week the first challenge at the new Sugar Creek Hollow is called TRASH TO TREASURE and we want you to create a vintage, shabby chic or primitive treasure from something that was either headed for your trash or your recycling bin. You are encouraged to use your paper scraps too but they are not considered your "trash" item.

You must show a photo of your trash item on your blog along with your finished project so that the Design Team can see how you got from Trash to Treasure.

Here is my trash item. I made the base for the tag from this Triscuit box. The lace was cut off an old slip that came from my husband's late aunt.

We will give one random winner a digi of our choice to play with along with a winner's badge. The Design Team will select one project as the Top Pick and the creator will also receive a badge and will be in the running for a Guest Designer spot.

We have a Guest Designer joining us this week along with our new DT member, Holly Young so pop over to see the Design Team's inspiration and then come back with an entry so we can see your wonderful creation.

I am going to enter this project in the following challenges:

Sweet Friendship

The challenge at Phindy's Friday Challenge Blog is to create a card featuring DISTRESSING.

I bet you were wondering how distressing and friendship go together. In my mind, if I were distressed about something, nothing would make me feel better than sitting with a dear friend at a cafe or coffee shop, pouring out my troubles and knowing that my friend would respond in just the right way.

You don't have to use a Phindy's image on your card but you get two entries if you do. If you don't have a Phindy's image, then I encourage you to pop over to her store because there are lots of great ones to buy, including some lovely new stamps.

I am going to enter this card in the following challenges:

The Sisterhood of Crafters - Use a Digital Stamp
Party Time Tuesdays - Anything Goes

Exciting News To Share

I have some lovely news to share with you. I am the new owner of Sugar Creek Hollow. I am on the Design Team and for over a year now, I have been doing the blog postings and helping Tracy Vinson, the creator of SCH, to manage the Design Team. Tracy has recently launched a new business and has decided to break away from crafting to focus her attention on this venture, which is really taking off. She kindly offered ownership of Sugar Creek Hollow to me and I was excited to accept.

Tracy has some great things happening in her life right now and I know she is excited to embrace this next chapter in her life. I wish her all the best and thank her from the bottom of my heart for all the faith and trust she placed in me for so long and also for instilling a love of vintage card making in me.

You will see some changes to the look of the Sugar Creek Hollow blog and as time goes on I will be adding some new features. I have some great challenges lined up for you and hope to see lots of our wonderful followers participating and showing us their vintage, shabby chic and primitive creations each week.

We are also saying hello to a new Design Team member. Holly Young has participated often in our challenges with her gorgeous vintage creations and has won Card of the Week numerous times. Please welcome her and check out her work here.

Watch for the first challenge under the new ownership this Saturday and be prepared to be blown away with the inspiration our designers have created for you. I hope you will join in on our fun.
