New Home

I made this card with one of  Daisy Doodles' cute images for someone who might be celebrating the purchase of a new home.  Moving is such a chore but yet it is so exciting to be in a new house - almost like a new start.  I put a verse inside this card that says:

Enjoy your new home,

and may it be a place

of beautiful memories

for years to come!

Sympathy Card for Phindy's Challenge

The challenge at Phindy's Place Challenge this week is to use ribbon.  I selected this beautiful image from Phindy thinking it would be perfect for a sympathy card so all I had to figure out was how to use the ribbon tastefully.  By its nature I don't think a sympathy card should be overly embellished so I hope I have accomplished that with this one.  I have put the following verse inside:

Not A Card for Daisy Doodles

The last challenge at Daisy Doodles Creative Challenges is now closed so it is time to vote on your favourite card made with pink and one other colour.  The challenge this week for  is to create Anything But A Card.  I hope more of you will jump on board this time and share a creation with us.  You have two weeks to enter your project and it can be a scrapbook page, an altered item, a bookmark, a gift box or holder and the list goes on.

Don't let it stop you if this is a little outside your comfort zone and you have never done this before because aside from cards the only other thing I have done before now is to make a few scrapbook pages.  I had plans for more but the card making addiction took over.  But back to the challenge - if I can do it, I'm sure you can do it and I can't wait to see your awesome projects.

I found a spiral bound journal and decided to alter it.  I didn't want to take the binding out and run the risk of not being able to re-insert it so I included some black in my design to tie everything together.  I recently purchased the Sentimentals cartridge for my Cricut machine and I used it to make the butterfly, the flourishes and the sentiment background.  Note To Self:  Use Cricut more often:)

Summer Swimmer

My three year-old granddaughter is taking swimming lessons and really likes Grandma to be there each week to watch her.  The only problem is that for the first three weeks she did not appear to be paying attention to the instructor.  I believe she really was listening because she would immediately do what she was asked when it was her turn but the rest of the time she was jumping up and down in the water, getting further away from the group, playing with the rings and things on the side of the pool and spitting water - in other words being three.  We had a little conversation and I told her that if she was going to fool around and not try to do her best then I wasn't going to waste my time coming to watch her.  Well I am pleased to announce that there was a huge difference in the lesson last Thursday and she did a great job of listening and trying all the things the instructor asked for.

When I saw this little swimmer, which was a generous freebie from Mo Manning to celebrate her group reaching 1400 on Paper Craft Planet, I decided last night to make a quick card for my granddaughter to tell her how proud I was of her for listening and to encourage her to keep going so she is ready to swim in her friends' pools this summer.  I have put text inside that says all of that.

I pushed myself to try something different and use basically one colour but I still couldn't bring myself to make Bronte blue.  When I started to blend the colour for the bathing suit it just wanted to move around.  I know it is better to have waxier pencil crayons but the amount of wax in this particular colour is overkill.  I solved the problem by removing the colour and I don't mind the result.

Sassy Sketch

At the Sassy Cheryl's Challenge there is a sketch to play with this week.  I found it to be a nice easy sketch and this card went together pretty quickly and was fun to do.  I even had everything on hand that I needed to make it.  Since I didn't spend any money on supplies, I am going to take $5 and buy a lottery ticket when I go out for a walk today.  The pot is worth $41 million so I am going to give it a try - along with a zillion other people.

Phindy's Grande Dame

The new Phindy's Place Challenge Blog was launched last week and the first challenge is very friendly - Anything Goes.  Of course you must use one of Phindy's images on your project but that is easy because there are so many great ones to choose from. 

I am a bit frustrated because the colour on this photo does not do the card justice and no matter how much I played with it in Photoshop I could not make it look the actual card.  The purple rose looks a bit dark but if I lighten it, the mat and image look too light.  I finally gave up and have decided I need to take either photography lessons or Photoshop lessons.  Although come to think of it, the real problem could be my fancy homemade photo booth - a white sheet wrapped around a cookie sheet leaning against the wall on my kitchen counter so I can take advantage of the under cabinet lighting - lol.  Because of the thickness of the lace, everything is popped up and very dimensional.

Pretty In Pink

The challenge this week at Mo's Digital Challenge is a sketch and I knew exactly which Mo image would be perfect.  I have loved this adorable image since I first saw her, especially those chubby little legs.  This card would be ideal as a baby girl card so I have put a verse inside to congratulate the new parents.

Sassy Golfer

When I won the challenge at Sassy Cheryl's last week, I just knew that I just had to purchase the golfer boy image with my prize.  Then to my amazement I discovered that the current challenge requires that you use a boy image from Sassy Cheryl's.  How is that for good timing?  I decided to create a birthday card and have a recipient in mind.

Finding a verse for the inside was a little difficult but I managed to find something that would fit the golf part:

Daisy Doodles Ribbit

I don't know why but this week I seemed to be following a less is more approach for my card designs.  I was going that direction on this Daisy Doodles card until I found the gingham flower lurking in a little drawer of bits and pieces.  It was then that I had an ah-ha moment and the card ended up with a few more embellishments than originally planned.   It is hard to see in the photo but the butterfly and the leaves are covered in crystal glitter (and so is my desk).

When I was showing the card to my husband, I started to tell him what was inside but as soon as I read the sentiment on the front he jumped in with "What happened, did you croak.".  We laughed so hard, we were crying but I didn't use it because I couldn't think of anyone off the top of my head that would not be offended even though I thought it was a great verse for the inside.

Looking For Clues

Time is flying and here we go with the start of yet another week but the sun is shining here in Southern Ontario - how lovely is that.  Not so in Saskatchewan apparently.  My aunt just called to tell me they were OK after the major windstorm yesterday.  I felt terrible because I didn't hear about it and it turns out they lost trees, roofs and even a ferry went for a float on its own.  In between loads of laundry yesterday and the dreaded ironing, I made this card for the weekly challenge over at Mo Manning's Challenge Blog.

Funky Sassy Girl

Well our lovely warm weather has officially taken a hike and it is now cold here.  We have one of those programmable thermostats set to lower the temperature during the day, automatically come back up around supper and then go down again during the night.  It feels so cold and damp today that I had to override it and make the furnace come on.  One good thing about a day like this is that it makes you want to craft all day.

The challenge this week over at Sassy Cheryl's Challenge Blog is to use one of Cheryl's girl images with some ribbon.  I decided that I would take a different approach to this card compared to some of the ones I have done in the past and forget about bows and other girlie embellishments but go a little funky and mod.  I hope you like it!

Baby Card

It's raining today so that's a great day for crafting.  The last challenge for Phindy's group on Paper Craft Planet before the launch of the New Phindy's Place Challenge Blog was to make a spring baby card.  By the way, if you haven't signed up to be a follower yet, you better head on over.

This card is going off to England where our friend's new grandson was just christened last weekend.  After I got everything cut and ready to go I remembered that I had planned to make my next easel card a bit smaller but I was already committed (or perhaps should be - lol) so I'll try to remember the next time.  I think I will have to adopt some of the techniques I used when I was a working girl to remember important items.  You can get pretty relaxed when you are retired.

Late Bunny

I am finally starting to get back in the swing of things since my trip out west.  I flew out there from a Tuesday to a Tuesday and I can't believe how much I got turned around when it came to figuring out what day it was, especially when there was a long weekend immediately following my return.  Today is the first day in over a week that it actually feels like the day it really is.  Today is Tuesday, isn't it?

I am a huge fan of Philomena O'Neill and the digital images she creates that can be purchased here.  Over 700 of us are followers of her group on Paper Craft Planet but now we are fortunate to follow her on the new Phindy's Place Challenge Blog. 

The Design Team will be announced next week and the first challenge will follow.  If you haven't signed up to be a follower on the challenge blog do not delay.  For every 50 followers of the challenge blog, Phindy will put names into a random draw for unreleased stamps - woohoo more quality digis.

Distressed Teddy

Happy Easter!  I hope you are enjoying your day.  We had brunch at my daughter's house this morning instead of doing a big Easter dinner.  My granddaughter was excited because she got to do an Easter Egg hunt and also received some toys and clothes.  She received a new science set and couldn't wait to show me the marbles that were growing in water - apparently they started out as granules the size of the head of a teeny pin.  My daughter graduated with an Honours Degree in Bio-Medical Sciences so she is anxious to see that her kids get exposed to the sciences as well as other subjects so they can choose which appeals to them.  The baby was just happy to show off his walking skills and play with his new toys.  He is too young for candy.

The challenge this week at Sassy Cheryl's Challenge Blog requires that you make a distressed card featuring one of Sassy Cheryl's images.  I had never distressed anything but after my disappointment with the Easter cards, I am happy with this one and hope you like it too.

Easter Card

I'm back - hope you missed me!  I was out in Medicine Hat, Alberta to visit my Mother-in-Law and while I was there we looked at alternative living space for her since she is finding it stressful living alone in her home now that she is 88 and not as well.  We also eliminated as much paperwork as we could so the bills aren't as confusing to her.

After catching up on house cleaning, grocery shopping and a pile of errands I am finally able to craft again and have something to show you.  Since it is Easter weekend, I thought I better tackle a couple cards for my grandchildren.  I am a bit disappointed in them though because I tried a different paper and while I didn't get any smearing, it didn't blend as nicely so I won't be using that again.

The image is called Easter Tree and has been coloured using a combination of Koh-I-Noor and Prismacolor pencil crayons.  The papers and cardstock are from my stash.  Other supplies used:  Pearl Stickers (Dollarama), Ribbon (Michaels), Branch Punch (Martha Stewart), Silk Flowers (Michaels), Paper Flowers (Bridal Supply Store), Nestabilities (Spellbinders) and Pearl Ex.

Easter Card No. 2

The second card features a generous freebie image from Elizabeth O. Dulemba.   The blending problem is particularly noticeable here and doesn't do the image justice but I don't have time to redo it.  Thankfully my grandchildren are only 1 and 3 1/2 so they won't be critical especially since gifts will accompany the cards.
