Timeworn

It is the start of a new challenge at Frilly and Funkie and this time our hostess, Autumn, is calling it Timeworn.  Here is what she has to say about the challenge:

As the last leaves fall from autumn trees, we are reminded of the beauty of yesterday. The leaves crinkled underfoot, the clock ticking onward, a fleeting memory... For this challenge, we would love to see your timeworn vintage or shabby chic creations celebrating the beauty of the aged, dated or weathered.

I decided to make an all occasion, mixed media card for this challenge with a rusty palette.

I started with a scrap of white card stock and attacked it with Spiced Marmalade, Vintage Photo, Walnut Stain and Frayed Burlap Oxides.  Unfortunately it warped a bit so next time I need to use a better substrate but I got the effect I wanted so I spritzed the back with water and put it between a couple of sheets of wax paper with a heavy book on top and it helped to flatten it out somewhat.

Next I started adding some interest to my panel.  First I used some Crackled Texture Paste through a Harlequin stencil.

Then I used Jet Black Archival Ink and a Bubbles stencil to add some dots.

Some Tumbled Glass Distress Ink through a stencil called Dots and Stripes Borders was used to add a few lines - they are very subtle.

My Crackled Texture Paste is getting really dry and while I can still spread it and it does crack, it has a tendency to start to flake off so this time I decided to seal this panel with a coat of Crazing Collage Medium.  I also gave it a light spray with some Lindy's Buccaneer Bronze Moonshadow Mist.

The next step was to make my big flower.  I cut one of each size petal from crinoline using a die called Shabby Posies and dyed them with a mixture of Pumice Stone and Antique Linen Distress Ink.  Once they were dry I sewed them together and inked the edges with  Gathered Twigs DI.  I added some brassy seed beads to the centre.

Next I stamped one of the leaves from the Leaf Prints set onto a scrap of cream card with Jet Black Archival Ink.  I used a Zig embossing pen to highlight a few areas and then heat embossed them with some Gold embossing powder from Stampendous.  The leaf was fussy cut and the edges were inked with some Gathered Twigs DI.

To assemble the card, I added the background to my cream card blank.  I added a couple strips of burlap followed by some brown fibres from EK Success Adornments (in my stash for eons).  The leaf print was added next along with a carved button, half of a flourish that was inked with Gathered Twigs DI and a little metal clock.

After I was finished I decided I wanted to add some white splatters but since I didn't want any on the embellishments I just used a stencil brush and pounced some white acrylic paint through a splatters stencil in a few random areas.

The following products used to create this card came from The Funkie Junkie Boutique:

  1. Cec, this is a show stopper! I absolutely love your background inking...so rich and detailed but subtle at the same time. That flower! Wow! You should make crinoline flowers all the time. It's so perfectly shaped! The little finishing details make this a work of art. One of my favorites from you! xo
