Ruffled Flower Card

Welcome to Sugar Creek Hollow and another Sensational Saturday.  This week we are challenging you to make SHAPED CARDS.  Now everyone will tell you a square or a rectangle is a shape and they are correct but we want you to stretch your creativity and to try making cards in lots of other shapes.  We want to remind you that we are a vintage, shabby chic or primitive inspired challenge blog so lets see your shaped cards in one of those styles.  And one other reminder - our challenges go live on Saturday morning at 8:00 am EST so please do not link to a post prior to that day and time.

This week we have a wonderful sponsor, "priscillastyles" Store.  The random winner will receive $10 worth of digis of their choice from "priscillastyles" Store and a Sugar Creek Hollow winner's badge to display on her blog.

The Design Team will also choose a Card of the Week and that creator will receive a badge to display on her blog and will be in the running for a Guest Designer spot.

The Design Team has created some wonderful cards for your inspiration using images from "priscillastyles" Store. I have used the floral bicycle, which can be found in the store here.

For my shape, I used a flower image from the Mother's Bouquet cartridge from Cricut and created a card from it using Design Studio.

I am going to enter this card in the following challenges:

AI Factory - Pretty in Pick
Digi Doodle Shops Best - Anything Goes
Outlawz - POM - Anything Goes
Paper Play - Blossoms and Blooms
Sassy Studio Designs - Pearls & Lace
Southern Girls - Lace & Pearls

Tag Card

The challenge this week at Delightful Challenges is to USE A TAG ON YOUR CARD.  This is my last card as a designer for Delightful Challenges as I am stepping down from the design team.  I want to thank Wendy Hall for the wonderful opportunity and her lovely friendship.  Thanks also to the rest of the team for their friendship and I plan to continue lurking around their blogs to see what they are up to and I hope they will visit here once in a while.

The sponsor this week is our own Digital Delights by Louby Loo with a $10 gift certificate to the store.

I had fun making this card and tried something different.  The tag is hand cut from a piece of plain blue card stock.  Then I sponged a couple of distress inks randomly over it and spritzed it with water.  The result was this cool mottled look, which really came alive when I embossed it.

I am going to enter this card in the following challenges:

Crafty Cardmakers - Embossing
Paper Sundaes - Pop It Up
Crafting for all Seasons - Anything Goes

Krafty Golfer

The challenge this week at Sassy Cheryl's is to colour your image on kraft card stock. I have wanted to try this for a long time but was afraid the ink would smear. I was wrong, the ink does not smear but I need to spend more time playing with the colours. I use Prismacolors and they turned out much darker than they normally do when I colour on white card stock. I had fun with it though so I will practice and hope for a better result the next time.

This will make a great birthday card for my Son-in-Law so I have included a birthday verse inside. He may be a bit annoyed with the theme though because ever since he started his BBQ business, he is so busy in the summer that he has only golfed once a year if that.

I am going to enter this card in the following challenges:

Sassy Cheryl's - Get Krafty
Crafty Cardmakers Spotlight Challenge - Challenge Yourself
Kaboodle Doodles - Distress, Rip, Tear, Crumple
Stamps R Us - Use a Digi
I Did It Creations - Anything Goes
2 Sisters - Use a Digi

Vintage Chef

Welcome to another Sensational Saturday at Sugar Creek Hollow.  This week our challenge to you is to create a MASCULINE card or other paper crafted project.  Father's Day is only a month away so that could be the theme of your vintage, shabby chic or primitive inspired item.  Of course, there are lots of other reasons to make something masculine because birthday cards are always in demand and this time of year graduation cards may also be required. So pull out your retro images, papers and embellishments and let's see what you come up with.

This week our random winner will receive a badge to display on her blog and a digi of our choice.  The Design Team will also choose a Card (or project) of the Week and the creator will receive a badge to display and will be in the running for a Guest Designer spot.

All of the designers have created some wonderful masculine projects for your inspiration.  To get more details, just click on their name to be taken directly to their blog.

Last week the Design Team reviewed all the April Cards of the Week and chose Heide D. to join us as a Guest Designer this week so please give her a warm welcome.

I found this fun image online and thought it would make a great Father's Day card, especially for my Son-in-Law who owns a BBQ food manufacturing business and restaurant. He makes smoked ribs, pulled pork, smoked brisket and sauces and rubs. He is always developing new recipes and whenever he cooks for us, we eat very, very well.

I am going to enter this card in the following challenges:

4 Crafty Chicks - Brads
Pixie Dust Studio - Vintage
Digi Stamps 4 Joy - Boys/Men
Creative Craft Challenges - Distressed/Vintage

It's Time to Grill

This week the challenge at Delightful Challenges is to do some MASKING.  It is also new release day at Digital Delights by Louby Loo and the new release is all about summer grilling.  There are a couple of character images along with a cooking set, BBQ accessories, some great sentiments and even a dog just waiting for something to be dropped on the ground.

I had never done any masking but once I saw a tutorial using GIMP, I figured out how to do it in Photoshop and it was quite easy.

One Image, Two Cards

This week the challenge at Phindy's Place is to take one image and create two cards with it.  This is a perfect opportunity to get extra use out of a stamp and the results can be be so different so I hope you will try it.

I had this post all ready to go yesterday when Blogger decided to go AWOL and when it finally showed up a while ago, it didn't bother giving me back the posts I prepared yesterday.  Their status page said they had temporarily taken the posts down and were in the process of restoring them but mine are gone so it wasn't temporary.  Not funny guys - I spent two hours creating all the posts.

I usually try to enter my cards in other challenges but since lots of challenge blog posts are gone, I am not going to this week.

Card 1

I tried something a little different with this one and paper pieced her dress and the wee bows on her shoes digitally.  Phindy doesn't always close lines so once I figured out that I need to put a temporary bridge in before I filled it with the patterned paper, it was easy and lots of fun.

Treat Bag

The challenge this week at Delightful Challenges is to use flowers.  I probably should not admit this but I had this bag all done and then rechecked the challenge only to discover that I was to use flowers so their placement is not quite what I would have done if I had read the challenge properly to begin with.  Let's just chalk it up to a senior moment.  I also intended to fill the bag with cookies, which is why I chose the image but at the last moment, I decided I needed to have homemade cookies in the house like a hole in the head so I filled it with the mini Smarties boxes that my husband had stashed in the cupboard.  Fortunately, I can't eat chocolate so it is no hardship for me to give them up but he may have something to say about it.

Our sponsor this week is The Cutting Cafe and the bag I made is from a template you will find in her store.  It comes with a variety of cutting options and I just used the .pdf version and hand cut my bag.  The prize for the random winner is any 3 sets from their store.

I am going to enter this project in the following challenges:

Craft Your Passion - Checks, Plaids or Gingham
Crazy Challenge - Anything Goes
Cupcake Craft Challenges - Gingham & Roses

May Sketch at Sugar Creek Hollow

Welcome to another Sensational Saturday at Sugar Creek Hollow. We have a sketch to challenge you with this week and a few changes.

The changes are simple - we are going back to our roots and we want you to show us vintage, shabby chic or primitive inspired cards or other paper crafted projects following the challenge theme for each week. If these aren't your styles, then this is the challenge blog for you because you will be able to get wonderful inspiration and stretch your creative repertoire. That is what a challenge means - trying something outside your comfort zone.

We are really excited to announce that some of our challenges are going to be sponsored but even though the Sugar Creek Hollow store is closed, Tracy will still offer a digi of her choice to the random winner when there is no sponsor. She will also offer a freebie once in a while so you need to check the challenge blog often.

We have reduced the size of the Design Team but will round it out with Guest Designers. We will continue to choose a top pick each week and then select a Guest Designer each month from that group. From time to time we will feature an invited Guest Designer.

My card this week isn't quite as vintage as I would have wanted but I do like it. I wish my Mother was still alive because I would have sent it to her for Mother's Day and I know she would have been pleased to receive it. Of course, since her favourite colour was blue, I know she would have liked it more if I had used that colour :) Did I ever tell you about her blue glass collection?  There were 800 pieces in all but perhaps that will be a story for another time.

I am going to enter this card in the following challenges:

Craft Us Crazy - Mother's Day and/or Flowers
Crafty Sentiments - Flowers
Divas by Design - Anything Goes
For Fun Challenges - Mother's Day or Lots of Flowers
Digital Tuesday - Ribbon and Lace

Don't Cross Me

The challenge this week at Phindy's Place is EMBOSSING. Great Outdoors

I know I have been missing all week but those wonderful, sweet little snotty grandchildren of ours gave both my husband and me horrendous colds and I had absolutely no energy to craft.  I wish I could say that I am totally back to normal but the cold is hanging on.  I have improved enough to start crafting again.

The challenge this week at Sassy Cheryl's is called the Great Outdoors and Krafty Karen has a 100 Followers challenge where she wants you to create a card inspired by something you made previously. So, I decided to kill two birds with one stone and go with a Sassy Cheryl card.

This is the new card that I made:

This card that I made last fall is the one that I used for my inspiration:

I switched up the seasons, used the same image, roughly followed the original layout and did the distressing so now I have two cards I really like.

I am going to enter this new card in the following challenges:

Sassy Cheryl's - The Great Outdoors
Krafty Karens  - Be Inspired by Your Most Favourite Creation
Digi Doddle Shop's Best - Anything Goes
4 Crafty Chicks - Distressing
AI Factory - Anything Goes
Art Impressions Stamps - Use An Animal
